Accidental Admin: Q&A Highlights and Resources

By: Kirsten Kippen

The Accidental Admin training yielded heaps of great questions - we've culled them and are sharing some here, as well as some of our favorite resources.

How many lead sources can you have, and can you organize them in a hierarchy?
The limit is very high, so it’s best to consider your org and what you want to measure. Best practice is 6-10 lead sources. Yes, hierarchies are possible.

Is there a limit on how many emails you can send per day using native Salesforce functionality?
Yes, 1000 per user per day.

Can you filter contacts by characteristics? For example, if I have lapsed donors, can I send them a different message than the continuous donor?
Yes, if you pull a View or Report of lapsed donors then you can message to them specifically. Use filters to isolate your preferred group.

What is the purpose of a Dashboard?
Dashboards are a way to view reporting data in a more image-oriented format. This often works well for presenting information to Executive Directors or Board Members.

We are in the process of developing an invite list for an event. Is this is campaign?
Yes, you would use a campaign to group your event attendees together. You’ll need to think about what you really want to find out. Do you want to know which people attended last year that have also donated this year? Which people attended last year that have not donated this year? Thinking about this through Salesforce is different from thinking about this through Excel.
