Claude for nonprofits: Your questions, answered
Anthropic's Claude for Nonprofits product has generated a lot of interest from the organizations we work with. As a Claude Beneficial deployments partner, we've had a front-row seat to what their nonprofit program means in practice. We put together this FAQ to break down what the program includes, what it means for nonprofit teams, and tips for getting the most out of AI.
What is Claude for Nonprofits?
Launched in December 2025, Claude for Nonprofits is Anthropic's dedicated program for mission-driven organizations. It bundles significant pricing discounts, nonprofit-specific AI tools and integrations, free training, and access to nonprofit-focused implementation partners. This is all designed to make AI accessible for nonprofits and maximize their impact.
Think of it as Anthropic saying: "We know you're doing important work with limited resources. Here's a real investment in your capacity."
How much does it cost? Is there a discount?
Yes, Anthropic offers meaningful discounts on their Team and Enterprise plans for eligible nonprofits starting at $8/month. Visit their website for Team pricing details, or connect with their sales team for a custom Enterprise quote. If you're not sure whether your organization qualifies, reach out to Anthropic directly to find out.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to a broad range of organizations, including:
- Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the United States
- ANBI-designated organizations in the Netherlands
- International NGOs working in humanitarian, environmental, educational, or social causes
- K-12 public and private schools
- Qualifying healthcare organizations
What makes Claude a good fit for nonprofits specifically?
Claude isn't just a generic AI tool — it's particularly well-suited to the kinds of complex, nuanced work nonprofits do every day, all while ensuring that security is a top priority. Here are just a few of the ways Claude can help:
Staying secure: Claude was built with security in mind. In addition to never using customer data to train, there are plans that offer extra features to meet security compliance standards, and even ones that flag security risks already present in your data.
Grant writing and impact reporting: Claude is great at synthesizing information, drafting narrative content, and tailoring messages for different audiences, which are all key skills when applying for grants. Whether you’re writing a letter of inquiry or a final impact report, Claude can drastically shorten the time it takes to start a proposal from scratch.
Donor engagement: Personalized outreach at scale is one of those things nonprofits know they should do but rarely have the bandwidth for. Claude helps close that gap from strategy through execution - whether it’s via email, social media, or a quick “thank you”.
Program evaluation and analysis: Claude can help teams analyze data, summarize findings, and translate complex information into formats that resonate with board members, funders, or the public.
Organizational efficiency: Think meeting summaries, internal documentation, staff communications, research synthesis — the everyday work that takes up time you'd rather spend on your mission.
24/7 constituent support: Imagine a Claude-powered assistant that can answer questions, direct people to resources, or triage requests at any hour without adding headcount. For organizations with limited staff, that kind of always-on capacity can be a game changer.
How do people actually use Claude day-to-day?
Claude for Nonprofits includes access to three versions of Claude – Chat, Cowork, and Code – giving you different ways to engage.
Claude Chat is the conversational interface most people start with – available on web, mobile, and desktop. Claude Chat is where your staff can ask questions, draft content, analyze documents, and work through problems in a familiar back-and-forth format. No technical background required.
Claude Code is designed for developers and technical teams. It operates from the command line and can handle complex, multi-step technical tasks. It is useful if your organization has staff building or maintaining custom tools or integrations.
Claude Cowork is a desktop tool that lets Claude work more autonomously alongside you — helping with file management, research, document creation, and multi-step tasks without constant back-and-forth. It's especially useful for operations and program staff managing a lot of moving pieces.
Most nonprofit teams will start with Claude Chat and layer in adoption of the other features as their comfort with AI grows.
Are there nonprofit-specific integrations?
Yes, alongside Claude’s pre-existing connector capabilities, Anthropic launched three new open-source connectors built specifically for the nonprofit sector. These tools allow you to pull relevant data and analyze information securely without manually migrating records between systems.
Benevity: connects Claude to a network of 2.4+ million validated nonprofits, useful for volunteer and donation searches.
Blackbaud: integrates Claude with your CRM and fundraising tools, so it can help with donor management, campaign tracking, and giving optimization.
Candid: connects Claude to nonprofit and funder data to support grant discovery and organizational research.
Beyond these new connectors, Claude also connects to a growing ecosystem of tools that nonprofits already rely on — platforms like HubSpot, Salesforce, Snowflake, and many others.
For organizations with more specific needs, Claude supports custom connectors built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that allows Claude to securely connect to your own internal systems, databases, or proprietary tools. It's a flexible way to extend Claude's capabilities without locking into a one-size-fits-all solution.
Is there training available to help our team get started?
Yes — and it's free! The Anthropic Academy has a suite of online training courses available from API development to organization-wide productivity. We recommend getting started with:
- Claude 101
- AI Fluency for Nonprofits
- AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations
We'd encourage every nonprofit team to start here rather than diving straight into implementation — knowing how to use the tool makes all the difference when trying to understand what is possible.
Do we need a technology partner to implement Claude?
Not necessarily, but if you want to go beyond basic usage — think developing custom workflows, Salesforce integration, preparing your data, or deploying agents to support program delivery —working with an implementation partner will help you get there faster and more intentionally while avoiding common pitfalls.

Managed Services for long-term AI success
AI tools like Claude are not a set-it-and-forget-it. As organizational priorities shift, confidence grows, and new use cases pop up, it is important to be agile – and that’s where our managed services model comes in. With managed services, you have direct access to our full roster of expertise, so we can flex when you do, rather than having a fixed project mindset. This can look like:
Strategic planning: We help get teams ready to use AI effectively through adoption roadmaps, extensive organization-wide training, and change management built into every project. This includes working with you to map out AI governance policies and develop guardrails.
Use case identification: We’ll help you identify high-impact priorities for AI and define how to get there through a comprehensive look at current workflows, baseline metrics, data funnels, key stakeholders, and more.
Building and iterating: We work in rapid innovation cycles defined around a single, well-defined scope that is then continuously iterated on. Over time the work progresses from an individual proof of concept to multiple integrated workflows to AI as organizational infrastructure.
Continuous management & optimization: This is where long-term success is determined as we refine existing use cases, expand to new ones, support additional teams, and improve results over time.
Where do I start?
A few good next steps:
- Check eligibility: visit claude.com to confirm your organization qualifies and to get started on a nonprofit license.
- Take the free training: "AI Fluency for Nonprofits" is a great starting point for your team to grasp how it can fold into their workflow. Training is an integral part of ensuring your whole team adopts it.
- Think about your use cases: where does your team spend the most time on tasks that could be streamlined? Pick one tightly scoped use case and start from there. We’ve seen the most success with teams that start specific, get it live, and learn from it to build momentum. (Don’t worry if it’s “boring”, that’s a good sign!)
